President's Responsibilities
- Assemble the monthly stated meeting agenda.
- Chair the monthly stated meeting.
- Call and chair special meetings when necessary.
- Hear all concerns from building representatives and seek to come to a mutual resolution by working with the member and building administration/department head.
- Reach out to and collaborate with Central Office and Building Administration when needed.
- Ensure that all By-Laws are being followed, and to make necessary corrective action when they are not.
- Help organize and host the Legislator Public Education and Teacher Retirement Q&A (during primary and general state legislative election cycles).
- Make sure all committees have chairs and members.
- Help fill any and all vacancies with Building Representatives/Officers.
- Sign all approved check requests.
- Actively serve as the annual JPS Negotiations Spokesperson.
Vice President's Responsibilities
- Serve as the President after term as VP is fulfilled.
- Serve as the President during the President's absence or inability to perform responsibilities.
- Chair the JPS Sick Bank Committee.
- Provide a monthly Sick Bank Balance and activity re-cap at each monthly stated meeting.
- Ensure all correct appointments to the Sick Bank Committee are filled.
- Make sure contact information is current and accurate on all Sick Bank Applications.
- Serve as one of the member's of the annual JFAST Negotiation Team.
Treasurer's Responsibilities
- Serve as the official JFAST Bookkeeper.
- Ensure the JFAST Check Request Form is correctly completed for all approved expenditures.
- Create a monthly Treasurer's Report that is reviewed at every monthly stated meeting, shared with all members via email, and posted to our JFAST Closed Facebook Group.
- Create a monthly CD Report that is reviewed at every monthly stated meeting, shared with all members via email, and posted to our JFAST Closed Facebook Group.
- Send stipend checks at the end of every term, in the appropriate amount, to every officer and Building Representative.
- Send the annual JFAST Scholarship checks to the appropriate school within (5) business days after the Scholarship Committee's final selections for the JFAST Scholarship recipients.
- Review and verify all new members with the President as well as existing members to determine the correct amount JFAST should receive from Central Office for annual dues. Confirm with Central Office by/before October 15th of each year.
- Verify the annual dues check from Central Office is correct per the records JFAST has for its member roster.
- Advise the President and Vice President on how JFAST can and should remain as solvent as possible while meeting its obligations to its members and the community JFAST serves.
- Serve on a committee that is not the Sick Bank.
Secretary's Responsibilities
- Take minutes at every stated, or special, meeting.
- Share the minutes, within (3) business days after the meeting, with all members via email and on the JFAST Closed Facebook Group.
- Serve on the Committee that is not the Sick Bank.
Representative Responsibilities
- Unless a grievance has been formally filed, maintain anonymity for our members at all times.
- Regularly attend our stated meetings.
- When directed, share information ONLY with JFAST members in your building.
- Work with your teachers, staff, and administration to make your building a positive and enjoyable place to work.
- Make an effort to first resolve issues at your building between you, the member(s), and your appropriate building administration. It is vital that you not take sides, and remain focused on obtaining and relying on only the facts. Always work to come to the best possible solution for all parties involved. Remain positive and professional at all times. If the problem cannot be solved at the building level, then contact the current President and have it added to the agenda for the next meeting.
- Maintain a private and efficient method for members to submit issues, questions, or concerns.
- Increase engagement for the Officer and Representative Election that occurs every two (2) years and consider running for an Officer position. The Secretary is the only officer position with a (3) year term. All other officer positions are a (2) term with the Vice President automatically succeeding the President.
